Terms of service

These terms are an agreement between you and Bart Sebastiaan Zanen, at Barcelona, ES, who builds and runs Journii. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean the operator of Journii, and “you” means the person using it.

They apply when you join the waitlist at journiiapp.com, and they will apply when you use the Journii web app or mobile app once those open.

Journii is a journey platform for anyone travelling in Europe, with extra features for exchange students. You build a journey — a timeline of the photos, posts, reviews, and events you create or join. You follow people in your city, see the journeys they are on, and find places worth going to instead of the ones on the postcards.

None of that exists publicly yet. Today journiiapp.com is a coming-soon page with a waitlist form, and that is all.

Everything we ship before public launch is early software. Be realistic about what that means:

• Features will change, and some will be removed. Anything we describe on the landing page is a plan, not a promise.
• There is no uptime guarantee. We may take Journii down at any time, with or without notice, to fix or rebuild it.
• Data created during a beta may be reset. We will warn you before we wipe anything deliberately, but do not treat early Journii as the only home for a photo you care about.
• Journii is free while it is pre-launch. If we introduce paid features later, we will tell you what changes at least 30 days before it happens, and nothing you already paid for will be taken away.

Joining the waitlist means we will email you when Journii opens in your city. It does not guarantee access, a place in a beta, or any particular date.

We open cities in batches, in the order that makes the product work for the people in them. We may also decline or remove a signup — for example if an address is fake, or if someone submits hundreds of them. You can leave the waitlist whenever you want; see the privacy policy for how.

Accounts do not exist yet. When they do, these rules apply:

• You must be at least 16 years old.
• Give accurate information about yourself, and keep it accurate.
• One account per person. Do not sell, rent, or share your account.
• Keep your login details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has got into it.

You can delete your account at any time, from within the product.

Journii puts real people in touch with each other in real cities, so the rules are stricter than they would be for a photo feed. Do not:

• Post anything illegal, or anything that harasses, threatens, bullies, or incites hatred against a person or a group.
• Post sexual content involving minors, or any sexual content without the clear consent of everyone in it.
• Publish someone else’s private information — their address, their timetable, their live location — or track a person through Journii against their wishes.
• Upload photos of other people who have not agreed to appear on your journey.
• Impersonate anyone, or claim a connection to a university, organisation, or venue that you do not have.
• Post fake reviews, paid reviews, or reviews of places you have not been. Reviews must come from your own experience.
• Spam, advertise, or run commercial promotions without our written permission.
• Scrape, crawl, or bulk-collect Journii data, or resell any part of the service.
• Attack the service: break or probe our security, reverse-engineer it, get around rate limits, or use it to distribute malware.

If you see something that breaks these rules, report it to legal@journiiapp.com.

You own your photos, posts, reviews, and events. We do not claim any ownership of them, and putting them on Journii does not change that.

To show your content to the people you meant to show it to, we need your permission to handle it. So you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, copy, resize, crop, and display your content — but only inside Journii, and only for the purpose of operating the service. We may pass that permission on to the companies that host and deliver the service for us, for the same purpose and nothing else.

This licence ends when you delete the content or your account. Two honest exceptions: copies may sit in encrypted backups for up to 30 days afterwards, and where someone else has re-shared your content inside Journii, their copy stays under their own control.

We will not put your photos in an advertisement, on the landing page, or in an app store screenshot unless you say yes first. We will always ask.

You promise that you have the right to post what you post, and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights. We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why unless the law stops us.

The Journii name, logo, design, and software belong to us. These terms give you permission to use the service, not to copy its brand or its code. You may not use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you.

You may stop using Journii and delete your account at any moment, for any reason.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that puts other people at risk, or that we are legally required to act on. Where it is reasonable and lawful, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we close your account, you can ask for a copy of your content within 30 days.

We may also discontinue Journii entirely. If we do, we will give at least 30 days’ notice and a way to export what you made.

Journii will link to maps, venues, events, and websites we do not control, and it exists to help you meet people in person. We do not vet the places, the events, or the people you find through it. Meeting strangers carries risk anywhere, online or off. Use your judgement, tell a friend where you are going, and report anything that goes wrong.

To the extent the law allows, Journii is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will suit any particular purpose of yours. This is especially true while it is pre-launch. Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country you live in.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost opportunities, or lost data arising from your use of Journii. Our total liability to you for all claims in any twelve-month period is limited to €100.

None of that applies to liability that cannot be limited by law. That includes death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.

These terms are governed by the law of Spain, and the courts of Spain have jurisdiction over disputes about them.

If you are a consumer in the EU, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in the courts there.

Please email legal@journiiapp.com before starting a formal dispute. Most things can be sorted out without lawyers.

We will change these terms as Journii grows from a waitlist into a product. When we do, we update this page and the “last updated” date at the top. For a significant change, we give at least 30 days’ notice by email and in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Journii after that, the new terms apply. If you would rather not accept them, stop using Journii and delete your account — that costs you nothing.
